Colorado returns its elite core at home while Los Angeles enters without Kevin Fiala, so an Avalanche victory is likely.
Colorado enters with the stronger returning team, home ice and a favorable recent record against Los Angeles. The Avalanche dominated last season at both ends and retained Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and their other central contributors. Los Angeles remains dangerous after adding Artemi Panarin and finishing the preseason strongly, while Colorado’s forward injuries and unresolved goaltending introduce substantial single-game volatility. Even so, Kevin Fiala’s absence further tilts the matchup toward an Avalanche victory, which is likely.
