Q expects September CPI to rise more than 0.5% because a gasoline-led energy surge outweighs soft core prices.
September's energy shock is the clearest route to a 0.6% published increase: Brent and retail gasoline rose sharply, and one detailed preview estimated 0.57% unrounded. The market currently treats the result as genuinely close, while the strongest reason to lean higher is the unusually large gasoline contribution embedded in several forecasts. The margin is thin because estimates of 0.53%–0.54% and XTech's 0.463% could produce a single-decimal reading of only 0.5%, with soft core and shelter inflation limiting support.
