Whalefall's early Tomatometer sits comfortably above the 75 threshold.
Whalefall's Tomatometer stood at 80% from 50 reviews on October 14, five points above the 75 strike, with the determination set for October 19, the Monday after its October 16 wide release. The early critical mix is genuinely divided: several reviewers rated it 80, 90, or 4 out of 5 and praised its tension and craft, while others rated it 40 or 2 out of 4 and called it kitsch or sentimental. Metacritic's tally of 13 positive and nine mixed reviews with no negatives points to a body of criticism that is mostly favorable with a substantial mixed minority. Because the Tomatometer counts only the share of positive reviews, that mix is consistent with a score in the high 70s or low 80s, and the 50 reviews already counted act as ballast: a late wave of negative notices would have to be unusually large and one-sided to drag the percentage below the strike. Scores can move as review counts fluctuate, and the widest uncertainty sits in the days right after wide release, when most new reviews arrive. Markets currently treat this outcome as somewhat less certain than this forecast does; the main consideration behind the difference is that the score already sits above the threshold with a meaningful cushion of counted reviews, while the market appears to weight the possibility of a late negative swing more heavily.
